The following abstract is taken from the introductory paragraph of the thesis. "The object of this thesis is not to state how or why agriculture should be taught in rural high schools, but merely to show the social value of the subject when taught in such schools, as it is evident to all educators, that subjects of social value should be emphasized in the training of youth. This is true because the standard for judging efficiency is coming more and more to have a social basis. It is hoped that this discussion will show the great value of agriculture in the rural high schools both to the individual pupil and to the community supporting the school. The purpose of agriculture is the small community school should be much the same as industrial arts training in the larger city schools, though the question, as to the comparative efficiency of the two schools, will have no attempted answer here."
